Tulsidas, Hanuman and Ram
By: Amrita Matz
Tulsidas was a Hindu saint and poet, known for his devotion to Ram. He wrote several popular works and is well known for writing the Hanuman Chalisa and Ramcharitmanas. He spent most of his life in Ayodhya and Banaras, now known as Varanasi. He founded the Sanjay Mochan Hanuman Temple in Varanasi, where he had met Hanuman. He started the Ramlila plays, a folk-theatre adaptation of Ramayana. He is considered to be one of the great saints and in his honor, Tulsi Ghat, on mother Ganga, in Varanasi is named after him.

Tulsi Ghat April 2025
On our pilgrimage to Neem Karoli Baba, Hanuman and Ram sites we spent time singing Hanuman Chalisa here at Tulsi Ghat and Sanjay Mochan Hanuman Temple where Tulsi Das had darshan with Hanuman.
Here is Gita and Kanhaiya singing Tulsi Das’ Hanuman Chalisa at Tulsi Ghat. Still this memory radiates positive feeling within when I sing the Chalisa and hear Tulsidas’ name.
Gita and Kainya are from the Ohio Ram Dass Satsang and Satsang yoga studio
